“Prayer Around the Flag Pole”

at
Rickman Elementary School

For the past ten years, Rickman Elementary School has been very fortunate to have “Prayer Around the Flag Pole.”  On the first Thursday of the month at 7:30 in the morning, there is a gathering of students and faculty around the flag pole near the entrance to the school.  This fellowship is looked forward to by all who attend.

Years ago Mrs. Jackie Ragland met with the faculty and prayed for all students, parents, families, administrators, government leaders, faculty, and citizens.  During these years, Mrs. Nancy Honeycutt took an active part in this activity and also served as an advisor to the Rickman Elementary School organization of FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes).

Then, Gary Gilbert began to work with FCA at Rickman Elementary School and has continued the “Prayer Around the Flagpole” since the 2000-2001 school year.  During the past five years, Mr. Gilbert has prayed diligently for our school, our country, our armed forces, and their families.  Mr. Gilbert has prayed for the elected leaders and our decision-makers to ask God for guidance.

The past few years, we have joined with the honor guard of the local Boy Scout troop, Pack 232, in the flag raising ceremony and Pledge of Allegiance to our American flag, before prayer.

We thank all the Rickman Elementary School administration and faculty for understanding the importance of this observance to the students and parents who join us.
